The newly redesigned HealthyTexasWomen.org makes it easier to get information about the healthcare services Texas Health and Human Services offers. Women must apply for the programs and be approved to get services. The three programs featured on this website are Healthy Texas Women, the Family Planning Program and Breast and Cervical Cancer Services.

Healthy Texas Women Demonstration

Texas Health and Human Services Commission applied to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for a demonstration under Section 1115 of the Social Security Act for a program to be called Healthy Texas Women. The Healthy Texas Women demonstration was approved on January 22, 2020, and is effective for a five-year period ending December 31, 2024.

HHS launched the Healthy Texas Women program July 1, 2016. The program provides women's health and family planning services at no cost to eligible, low-income Texas women. Through the demonstration waiver, HHS seeks to increase access to and participation in the program. This waiver will not change the current Healthy Texas Women client or provider experience.

Expanded Access and Services for Women’s Health Programs in Texas

Texas HHS launched two new women’s health programs July 1, 2016: Healthy Texas Women program and Family Planning Program. These programs offer health and family planning services to more women across the state.

More women can now get free or affordable healthcare services statewide. The Healthy Texas Women program offers comprehensive healthcare, including birth control, pregnancy tests and counseling, and health screenings and treatment for hypertension, diabetes and cholesterol. The Family Planning Program will now offer more services, including limited prenatal care.
